It was a good turnout despite a formal gala fundraiser later that evening. The events were also held during a long weekend before the school term began.
Queensland Racing chairman Steve Wilson and Racing Minister Grace Grace were among the dignitaries that attended the races, which included the prestigious Lord Derby Stakes, and the Spring Cup.
The fashions of the field winners included classic lady Sarah Burke, who said the win felt “bloody good”.
“I’ve got some money back,” she said. Runner-up was Donna McCormack.
Contemporary lady was Jordy Vinson who wore a blue and white printed Chi Chi London dress. Runner-up was Khlohe Gosbee.
The best millinery of the day was judged to have been worn by Caroline Lucas.
The entrants in the men’s fashions in the field behaved. There were no budgie smugglers, backflips or breakdance moves this time. Chris Burns won the category.
