Just two days after completing the first ever Brownlow medal, AFL premiership medal and Norm Smith medal treble (in the one year) in the history of the game, Martin took out the Richmond best and fairest award ahead of Alex Rance, Kane Lambert, Trent Cotchin and Dylan Grimes.

It means this year Martin has won - in addition to his unique treble - the AFL Coaches Association's Player of the Year award, the Leigh Matthews trophy (AFLPA MVP), the Gary Ayres award (AFLCA best finals player) and an All Australian selection.

"It's a very special footy club. It's been a massive year, it's been one of the best years I've had in my life," Martin said after winning the award. "Talking to a few of the boys we are still pinching ourselves we won the premiership.

"It's been really good, we all deserve it, it's been really good ... I just love getting our there with all the boys and playing footy. You just don't have to think about all the other crap in your life for those two hours.

"You just go out there and play footy and do what I have always loved doing."

Asked how he would celebrate the award, Martin said "the funny thing is is that I probably carry on like this every off season, but it's going to be extra special. It is going to be awesome".

He went onto thank his teammates, his father, Shane and family, the fans and everyone at the Richmond football club.

"This is just the beginning, I think we have got plenty of good times ahead," he said.

The award was Martin's second Jack Dyer medal in a row after he won his first in 2016. Martin only beat second-place-getter Rance by nine votes, while in somewhat of a surprise result Lambert finished third, four points behind Rance. Cotchin was three votes behind Lambert and Grimes four behind his premiership skipper.

Martin was irrepressible for the Tigers this season and was the clear stand out in the club's first premiership side since 1980. His form prompted AFL legend Leigh Matthews to describe the 26-year-old's 2017 as the best individual season ever.

"Dusty" polled the maximum five votes in a match on seven occasions including two finals - the qualifying final triumph over Geelong and Saturday's grand final victory over Adelaide. He averaged 29.8 disposals per match and booted 37 goals (second most at the club), spending more time in the forward line than he did in 2016 when he only kicked nine.

Rance's 2017 peaked with the premiership win and being named captain of the All Australian side. He finished second to Martin in 2016's club best and fairest after winning the Jack Dyer medal for the first time in 2015. His performances this year have again led to calls that he is one of the best full backs of the modern era.

"I just love having fun with my mates, and that's what I did this year which I enjoyed so much," Rance said.

Lambert had a breakout season in 2017, becoming an integral part of Richmond's midfield both as a defensive and offensive influence. He averaged 21.5 disposals (per game), 4.6 tackles and 4.1 inside 50s. He was ranked second at the tigers for goal assists and score involvements and ranked fifth for contested and uncontested possessions.

Premiership skipper Cotchin was widely lauded for his role in leading the Tigers on and off the field in 2017. He played in the grand final after a preliminary MRP scare owing to his bump on Dylan Shiel and lifted Richmond's eleventh premiership trophy with coach Damien Hardwick.

Cotchin's aggression, particularly in the finals series, was enormous and went a long way to his club's triumph.

Grimes wonderful season in defence was topped off by his grand final performance where he nullified Eddie Betts, perhaps the 2017 season's most dangerous small forward. He excelled down back for the Tigers and formed a formidable triumvirate with Rance and David Astbury.

For the Jack Dyer medal every player (except the ones deemed to have had a "below average game") is awarded zero to five votes after each Richmond clash, including finals, by the Tigers match committee.

Jack Riewoldt won his eighth consecutive club leading goalkicker award while Grimes won the player-voted Francis Bouke award, for the team member who showed the best "awareness, belief and discipline" during the season.

Dan Butler won the club's first year player and Shane Edwards the David Mandie Community award.
