Mothball the wombat is on a 59 venue tour around every state and territory, starting at the home of Monkey Baa Productions in Sydney.
She arrives in Mount Isa on Tuesday October 10, and will be taking the stage at the Civic Centre at 10.30am and 6pm. Tickets are from MIETV.
Diary of a Wombat is based on the true story told in Jackie French and Bruce Whatley’s famous picture book of the same name.
While the show is aimed at children (3-8 years), co-creator Eva Di Cesare says everyone will enjoy Mothball’s antics.
“We’ve seen babies in there and grandparents in there absolutely in hysterics, loving it, so it really is for all ages,” Eva said.
Eva describes Diary of a Wombat as a visual storytelling piece with live cello and an action, which was written in an unusual way, with a team of revered artists.
Designer Imogen Ross, Puppetry and Movement Director, Alice Osborne, and accomplished composer and cellist, Oonagh Sherrard, use masterful puppetry and live music to enhance the story.
“One of the ideas I had as a director was that the cello would be the voice of the wombat,” Eva said.
Monkey Baa last visited Mount Isa in 2003 with a show called Worry Warts, and has visited the North West many times.
Regional touring was one of the reasons Eva, Tim, and Sandy set the company up 20 years ago, Eva said.
“The three of us were really passionate about getting really good quality theatre out to young people in remote and regional Australia, and making sure they weren’t just getting two dogs and a hoop,” Eva said.
