Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a Queensland Rail tractor crane struck a woman crossing the road in Brisbane and then left the scene as she lay on the road with critical head injuries.

The video, posted on Twitter by 7 News Brisbane, showed the moment the 27-year-woman began to cross the intersection of Hamilton Place and Campbell Street, Bowen Hills, about 1am.

The footage shows that within seconds a yellow tractor crane turns the corner, runs over the woman and appears to continue driving.
A car that turns the corner shortly also appears to come close to hitting the woman, who was left on the ground with critical injuries, but the vehicle stops in time and pulls over.
Paramedics rushed the 27-year-old woman to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with critical head injuries.
She underwent emergency surgery on Thursday morning and about 1pm an RBWH spokeswoman said she remained in a critical condition.
Police seized a tractor crane from Queensland Rail at Bowen Hills on Thursday, while a 58-year-old man assisted police with their inquiries into the alleged incident.
Queensland Rail chief-executive-officer Nick Easy said it was a terrible accident and his thoughts were with the young woman and her family.
"This is a police matter under investigation," Mr Easy said.
"Queensland Rail is doing everything possible to assist emergency services with their inquiries."
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the distinctive heavy vehicle or has dashcam footage in the Bowen Hills area overnight to contact Policelink 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Investigations were continuing.
