Carl Wulff, 65, who was the most senior bureaucrat at the council between 2006 and 2013, was taken to the Brisbane Watchhouse on Thursday and charged with one count of official corruption and one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

And his wife Sharon Oxenbridge was arrested on Thursday afternoon and taken to the Brisbane Watchhouse where she was charged with a single count of corruption.

She will face court on October 24 alongside her husband Mr Wulff.

He is the fourth senior Ipswich council figures facing charges as part of the Queensland corruption watchdog's ongoing investigation into the council's operations.

Mr Wulff is accused of taking money to "facilitate a fill services brokerage agreement and subsequent works" between January 1, 2012, and April 30, 2014.

The CCC also alleged he tried to pervert the course of justice at a Logan pub on September 27.

He is accused of "influencing a witness with a false written statement in order to provide false evidence", at The Glen Hotel in Eight Mile Plains.

Mr Wulff was appointed during the tenure of former mayor Paul Pisasale and was a close confidant.

Mr Wulff resigned from Ipswich council in December 2013 amid an earlier corruption investigation by the CCC and took a similar role at Liverpool Council in NSW.

In 2014, he was formally cleared by the CCC of the allegations, involving an apartment rented by Mr Wulff to a contractor working for the council.

Mr Wulff resigned from Liverpool Council last year following controversies involving asbestos dumping and the outsourcing of council services to a company owned by the Local Government Association of Queensland.

Mr Pisasale, who resigned in June amid a CCC investigation, is facing charges of extortion, assault and attempting to pervert justice. His lawyer Cameron McKenzie has also been charged with extortion.

Mr Wulff's successor as chief executive, Jim Lindsay, was last month charged with official corruption and disclosure of a confidential document. The council's chief operating officer of works, parks and recreation, Craig Maudsley, was charged with misconduct in public office.

Mr Wulff is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 24.

The CCC said that as the matter was ongoing it was unable to provide further information about the charges.
