Ron Quinton had his day in front of the stewards on Thursday, who cleared him from being associated with dirtiest word in racing - cobalt. Now he can get on with training winners.

One of the most respected trainers in racing, Quinton had a cloud over him for the past couple of months, even as Daysee Doom and Dixie Blossoms powered to a one-two finish in the Golden Pendant, a result they are favoured to replicate in the Angst Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

"It is just good to have it over with, because it plays on your mind," said Quinton, who walked away without a penalty after stewards found his prepacked feed likely caused the cobalt problems in his stable.

The veteran horseman had to keep quiet about the feed problem - which caused his stable to be virtually shut down in August - and let the Racing NSW investigation take its course.

"I never had any doubt that I hadn't deliberately done everything wrong. I have a clean record since I have been training, so it was surprise to me what was happening," Quinton said of the cobalt positive to Boss Lane and Imanui and number of elevated readings.

"I don't use the stuff, I have seen what it does to horses.

"I couldn't explain it but when your feed is not what it says it is on the bag there isn't much I could do."

The feed was found to have 50 times the levels of cobalt advertised on the bag, which lead to Quinton's entire stable pushing the cobalt threshold.

Daysee Doom and Dixie Blossoms had to miss their first-up runs as stewards ran tests on the Quinton stable to ensure his horses were racing within the rules. Quinton said it didn't compromise their preparations, only played on the mind of their trainer.

"The stewards did a good job of handling it and finding out what the problem was," said Quinton, who escaped penalty despite pleading guilty to presenting Boss Lane and Imanui to race above the cobalt threshold. The pair were disqualified.

"It wasn't something I could have done anything about but it is just good to get my name cleared because you worry about it.

"The horses were still being trained the same and you can see they are both going well. It was a worry but I got up [on Friday] morning and that weight was gone."

Quinton will head to the races with a clear head as Dixie Blossoms attempts to win the Angst for the second consecutive year, while Daysee Doom gets her first test over the mile.

"I would have liked Daysee to have drawn softer because she will have to do a bit of work from the wide gate and it is the her first time at the mile," Quinton said. "She is very tough but it will be a good test of her because that Randwick mile can find them out.

"Dixie Blossoms won this race last year and we know she can run a strong mile. I'm sure they will both be running very good races again. It will probably come down to which gets the best luck."
