Nick Olive wins fourth Tony Campbell Memorial Cup

That was the message from Nick Olive after the Canberra trainer picked up several club awards and won his fourth Tony Campbell Memorial Cup at Thoroughbred Park on Friday.

Olive won the Canberra trainers premiership and horse of the year, before Jeff Penza stormed home on Bring A Secret to win the Cup ahead of Gamblestown and Super Star Bob.

Olive said it was a special afternoon with not just clients, but friends, as he celebrated the season with more than 50 connections at the track for a luncheon.

"It's awesome, just awesome. It has been a big day for us, we won a lot of awards at the function earlier and now our fourth Tony Campbell Cup, I love this race, it's awesome," Olive said.

"We had so many people in our group today at the function and to be able to share this with all them just makes it perfect, it's what it's all about, just seeing the joy on people's faces is unreal.

"I was pretty confident at the turn, we took the blinkers off for this start and he just relaxed a lot more, he got on the straight and let down, he really let down today, it was awesome."

Owner Colin Hickey did not share Olive's confidence on the straight and described the win as a brilliant response from the gelding after his last start.

"Two weeks ago he got beaten by Super Star Bob after he was run down at the end and this was 200m further so we had our doubts but we love the horse, he's been a very reliable horse for us and this is just a great win," Hickey said.

"It's a great effort beating Super Star Bob because Matty Dale really gets his horses right for the big day, but fortunately today we were too good.

"I want to thank Nick and the team and the young strapper Kalina Bone who was a very good mate of Riharna Thomson who died earlier in the year, so it's a bit of of a win for Riharna as well."

Hickey also tasted victory with Lord Denman named horse of the year, while Brendan Ward won the jockeys premiership but didn't have everything go his way.

In race three Bridges got spooked at the gate and bucked Ward off then jumped the fence and bolted around the outside of the track, before stewards brought the gelding under control.

Brock Ryan won the apprentice jockeys premiership.
