Waterhouse's famous game face was out for all to see when she quickly panned critics of the five-year-old mare, whose only wins have come during autumn campaigns.

But an eye-catching second behind The Everest reserve In Her Time in the Premiere Stakes, the most used platform for the inaugural running of the world's richest turf race, has Waterhouse sprouting her unusual enthusiasm.

"I think she'll win," Waterhouse said on Wednesday. "She's tough and she's rolled up her sleeves for the day and we've got her ready. She's been beaten a few times but she's come right at the right time."

It was the usual show of bravado from Australia's most recognisable horse trainer, who now trains in partnership at Tulloch Lodge with Adrian Bott.

Group 1 winner English will launch from the outside gate in the field of 12 under Blake Shinn, but Waterhouse assured slot holder Tabcorp it wouldn't be a hindrance as she eyes the biggest cheque of her illustrious career.

"Barrier 12 couldn't be better, I'm telling you, because she'll be out there and able to make her own luck and that's what you want," Waterhouse said. "There will be a stack of speed inside of her and it can cart her right into the winning post.

"She's put on the body weight you want going into a major event. You see her skin, the way it gleams. You see the muscle tone on her, she'll knock you over. Adrian just had a contest with her in the box."

English was listed a $11 chance on the sixth line of betting with Sportsbet on Wednesday night.

Bott has already enjoyed two group 1 wins and savoured a Melbourne Cup experience in union with Waterhouse, but is angling for his biggest success as a trainer to date with the mare long earmarked for the race.

"I think we've got every chance," he said. "Last start she put the writing on the wall. She made a big statement with a great performance."

And it would no doubt be a promoter's dream if Waterhouse was to win the first staging of The Everest in front of an anticipated 30,000 plus crowd at Randwick.
