Rising Canberra star Brody Doran has capped off a spectacular season by winning the Basketball ACT most valuable player prize at an awards function on Friday night.

Doran had a breakout year, going from Wests development player to the Canberra Gunners and leading the ACT under-20s side at the national titles.
His impressive form was rewarded with the league's highest prize, while former Canberra Capital Michelle Patt won the women's most valuable player award.
Patt, a mother of two, is now a back to back most valuable player winner and is still dominating the local competition after retiring from WNBL duties to focus on family life.
Basketball ACT also introduced a defensive player of the year, coach of the year, leading scorer and referee of the year prizes this season.
Former Capital Sarah McAppion was the leading scorer in the women's division while rising WNBL prospect Callie Borne was the defensive player of the year.
Doran's Gunners teammate Glenn Morrison was the men's division one defensive player of the year and the 208 centimetre Vikings junior is believed to be on the verge of scoring an NBL deal.
