A Brisbane man who tried to stop a fight in Hervey Bay has suffered significant head injuries after falling victim to an alleged one-punch attack by a random passer-by.

The 23-year-old man from St Lucia was trying to break up a fight between two men on Charlton Esplanade in Torquay when it will be alleged a teenage passer-by, who was not known to any of the people involved in the dispute, hit the man in the head.
Police said the good Samaritan was knocked unconsciousness and hit his head on the ground. He was treated at the scene and taken to Hervey Bay Hospital.
A 19-year-old Tinana man was arrested at the scene and later charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. He was expected to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Saturday.
