After 1400 metres and with barely a couple of lengths from the finish, any one of the top three could have taken out the cup, but it was Holey Gadoley storming up the outside, with Lee Attard aboard, to take the honours by a length.
Second was Tamara Tincknell riding Your Way or Mine for trainer David Smith.
A further length behind in third was the Ballard combination with son Danny riding mum Denise’s Travel in Style.
The win was the highlight of a five race card in hot conditions.
In race 1 the CQ Field Mining Services Maiden Plate over 1000 metres, trainer Bob Burow came up with the goods with his horse Sunnic King winning guided by Shaun Mossman, the favourite at $1.70 finishing two lengths clear of The King’s Magic.
Just Pretends finished third, four lengths further back.
Race 2 was the Joe and Pauline Bakhash Memorial Class 6 Plate and in a small field of five it was another win for the favourite.
Jockey Aaron Spradau rode trainer Damien Finter’s Rothstein for another victory.
Rothstein was a head clear of Our Hussler with Rocksham equally close behind in third place, in another blanket finish.
Race 3 was also tightly packed, the Sparrow Harrison Snr Memorial QTIS Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1000 metres.
Trainer Croydon Harrison would have been happy with his $9 chance My Crimson Lad, which was steered to victory by jockey Ray Hancock.
It just edged out favourite Chat Time in a photo with Tempesta Rossa equally close in third.
Race 4 was the feature race and it was followed by Race 5, the Mort and Co Livestock/ Chinova Resources Class 3 Plate.
It was a quinella of outsiders for trainer Tanya Parry with Tamara Tincknell leading Rubidus ($14) to victory ahead of the Keith Ballard-ridden No Angel Here ($21).
Third was Rock Spark.
