Coach Tim Sampson described the 11-try effort as their best performance of the season with the Vikings booking their ticket to the Rugby Championship finals with the bonus-point win.

Faingaa, Ryan Lonergan and James Dargaville all finished with doubles as the Vikings dominated the set-piece against an ill-disciplined Rays outfit.

The Vikings welcomed back Wallabies' Henry Speight, Rory Arnold, Joe Powell and Sam Carter, but Sampson emphasised it was a 23-man job.

"The message today was be ruthless and our blokes responded well with a lot of composure out there," Sampson said.

"Without a doubt this team is getting better and better every week, we've got a good balance now with how we want to play the game and both our attack and defence really humming.

"We had a nice injection of representative players this week but today was all about a 23 blokes working together because we saw how much the reserves contributed off the bench."

Sampson said Faingaa's call up to the Wallabies ahead of the third Bledisloe Cup Test in Brisbane on Saturday is a testament to the NRC competition.

"It was a great response from Folau today and that's what this tournament is all about, rewarding players who have earned call ups by playing consistently rugby," Sampson said.

Vikings and ACT Brumbies five-eighth Wharenui Hawera controlled proceedings all afternoon, while skipper Tom Cusack led a dominant forwards display.

The biggest win of the season sees the Vikings firm into the title favourites and Sampson admitted there was plenty to like heading into business end of the season.

"We could have gone loose today but we played nice and direct but the most pleasing thing is how we can mix our game up," Sampson said.

"We can play direct and good hard footy through the middle but when we want to go to an edge and throw it around a little bit there is a confidence and an edge we can play that sort of game."

The Rays were on the attack early but after 15 minutes of defence the Vikings scored two quick-fire tries and after Rays' fullback Josh Turner was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock down in the 20th minute, it became one-way traffic.

Canberra held a 31-0 half-time lead and just three minutes into the second half Rays' flanker Garry Bautz became the first player in the NRC to be red-carded this season after spear-tackling Hawera.

The Vikings completely dominated from there and ran in another 40 points as Lausii Taliauli enjoyed 20 minutes off the bench for his first game in 10 months following a knee reconstruction.

Joe Powell played just his third game in three months and was scratchy early but finished strong alongside Speight who found more of the ball in the second half.
