300 people have been booked for the special luncheon which costs $100 a seat.

The function has sold out, but the regular punter can still pay $10 entry fee at the Buchanan Park gate.

Race club committee member Mel Goddard-See said the regular function room holds about 100 people. 

“So we wanted to put our feelers out making it a bigger event, because of breast cancer much higher this year in diagnosis’. There were 17 referrals to the North West Breast Cancer Support Group this year. 

“And a lot of them (patients) have been our friends, so the response from the community has been great.”

Part of entertainment in the pavilion includes guest speaker Catherine Britt, from Newcastle, who is a breast cancer survivor. The pavilion also has the fashions on the field. 

Local businesses had also offered much support in the running of the race, she said. 

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the North West Breast Cancer Support Group.

It was yet to be determined how much. It depended on how much was raised. 

“With our function in there (entertainment centre) it will be quite a sum,” she said. 

This race day is only one of many where volunteers such as Ms Goddard-See, Lenore Saunders, and Annie Cremer work behind the scenes to coordinate the event. 

“I am a local myself so it’s just about giving back,” Ms Goddard-See said.   

There are five races to be held at the Buchanan Park track with 43 nominated racehorses at the time nominations closed on Wednesday morning. 

The races include the Les Huddy Memorial Open Plate which had seven horses nominated. 

These included Steven Royes’ Golden Meteor, Jim Jackson’s Five O’Clock, and Jay Morris’s Le Cap. 

Julia Creek trainer Tanya Parry makes up much of the nomination list by listing 13 horses from her stables that can race on Saturday. 

This includes Flamingo Rose who is nominated for the Benchmark 55 Handicap, and Cobungra Boy, nominated for the 0-60 Handicap.
