If you like sunshine and bush runs, running club organiser Alison Whitehead says it is a good time to get involved and get fit.
“We have so many enjoyable trails to look forward to over the next three months,” Whitehead said.
“Everyone is welcome, no charge. We’re just a group of like-minded friends, with different running abilities, getting together to run 10 to 12km and enjoy a coffee at Macca's afterwards.”
Runs take place every Saturday morning at 6.15am, at different locations around Mount Isa.
This Saturday October 18, meet the team at Splashez Aquatic Centre.
On October 28 go to Sybella Creek Crossing, 20km on the Boulia Road. On November 4 go to Tom O’Hara Park on the corner or Barkly Highway and Lake Moondarra Road. On November 11 go to Turanga Shopping Centre. On November 18 go to Tony White Oval. On November 25 go to Body Balance. On December 2 go to Bowhunters.
Getting off the road can be a plus too, Whitehead said.
“I prefer to run on dirt than bitumen. Regardless of where we start, we usually head to a bush location,” she said.
Mount Isa Running Club started 20 years ago at what is now Body Balance, and has been kept alive by Alison and her running buddy, Rick Leeman.
Many members are currently training for the Ultra Trail Australia 50km or 100km trail walk in the Blue Mountains next year.
