Chris has been a valued member of the team for almost four years and is leaving to head overseas to work in Peru in South America to teach English to local students.
As Chris wrote in a farewell editorial in Saturday’s paper, Mount Isa has left a deep impression on him.
“I leave with sadness, happiness and my own personal sense of accomplishment,” Chris said. “There might be a few ‘good riddance's’ out there and now I hope so. If there isn’t then I did not do my job properly.”
Among the many big stories he covered were the Deighton St caravan fire, the jet ski death at the junction, the Triple J One Night Stand and the Glencore zinc mine closures.
Former Star journalist Samantha Walton rejoins the team as senior journalist to replace Chris. Samantha has spent the last year working on the North Queensland Register but wanted to moved back to Isa as she starts a family. Her first day back is Monday, October 30.
