It has been a tough year or so for Winona Costin. A series of falls and head knocks have seen her sidelined for longer than she would liked. But Saturday at Caulfield is why she always wanted to come back.

Costin will reunite with Super Too in Saturday's Caulfield Sprint - due to a suspension to Corey Brown - a flying mare that she has had a long association with, going back to her first win in the Lightning Ridge Stakes on debut in February 2016. That day also started Costin's poor run of luck when she had a race fall, which resulted in the first of a series of concessions.

"That seems a long, long time ago. It seems like a different life because I have spent much time out with all those falls and head knocks," she said.

"You don't think you are going to get on a horse like her again. I rode her in all her early runs and had a pretty good record on her. But when I was out the boys got on her and that usually means you don't see a good one like her again."

Super Too has won her past two starts at Randwick and Moonee Valley using sheer speed. Trainer Marc Conners had no hesitation in turning back to Costin for Saturday.

"She would probably still be on her if not for her dramas. Super Too has always run for Winona. They get on really well and it was just because she was not available that we had to use someone else," Conners said. "When Corey couldn't ride her, I knew Winona was riding well and I knew she was the one to ride her."

Costin spent nearly six months out with a series of concessions last year and early this year. When she got back in the saddle one of her mounts bucked on her at Wellington and she broke both wrists.

She got back to race riding in August and on the same day that Super Too returned to the winner's circle scored one of her five wins at 1000 metres.

"She won that day and I thought, 'that could have been me and I'm never going to get her to ride her again'," Costin said. "I have been riding trackwork for Marc Conners and when Corey got suspended he rang and said 'how would you like to go to Melbourne?'

"I couldn't believe it. To ride her, a horse that I know so well, on one of the biggest days of the year is something you dream of.

"She is the sort of horse that is very fast and going to be one to beat."
