The Raiders are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2017 campaign where they missed the finals and return to the form they showed last year.

For a majority of the Raiders squad that will start when they return for pre-season training in November, but for Stuart preparations have already begun.

While he's already an NRL premiership winning coach, and has coached both Australia and the NSW Blues, he's still looking to improve himself as a mentor.

You won't find much better place to do that than with the All Blacks.

Not only have they become the best rugby team in the world by a country mile, but they've also established themselves as one of the best high-performance outfits in any sport.

For several years, Australian netball coach Lisa Alexander has used the All Blacks as a benchmark as she turned her team into a similarly dominant force.

Stuart saw his time with the All Blacks in Brisbane as the perfect opportunity to not only improve himself, but the Green Machine as well.

"I want our players to be better next year - every individual better. Everybody in the football department has to be better next year," he told Fairfax Media.

"Our players, my coaches and my staff, and this is my way of learning how to be better. It's part of the team function that we all need to be better next season.

"Over the last six weeks I've been working on that and ... the opportunity of learning from the best rugby team in the world is one way of certainly improving in a number of areas."

While he didn't go into the specifics of how he'll use what he learnt, Stuart said he took a "number of things" out of the opportunity.

He said he was welcomed into the camp, as the All Blacks prepared for the third-and-final Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

They're looking to make it a clean sweep against the Wallabies this year - with their last loss to Australia more than two years ago - and add to their unbeaten run through the Rugby Championships.

While he made a name for himself as a premiership-winning half-back for the Raiders, Stuart also had a background in rugby union, having represented the Australian schoolboys team as well as being picked for a Wallabies squad.

His time with the All Blacks wasn't the first time the Raiders have looked outside rugby league for ideas, with Stuart visiting AFL club Gold Coast Suns earlier this year as well as travelling to the USA to tour NFL club Seattle Seahawks two years ago.

"There was a number of things that I've taken away from the experience. The one thing was so impressive and nice to see was that they were all such great people," Stuart said.

He had dinner with New Zealand coach Steve Hansen last year and set up the opportunity through Mark McGarry.

The Raiders coach will take three weeks off ahead of pre-season before returning to work with a reduced squad due to the upcoming World Cup.

While no one was picked for the Kangaroos, 10 Canberra players were picked across five nations for the tournament.

"I had dinner with Steve Hansen last year and that's where our relationship started and Mark McGarry, who is a local boy who has been involved in their staff the last 17 years, spoke to Steve for me and that's where the opportunity arose from," Stuart said.

"I was so impressed with how I was welcomed into the All Black camp and environment. It was a privilege to be involved in their preparation going into the Test this weekend.

"The opportunity to have some personal development with the best in the world is a privilege."
