Operation Papa Journey was established in July 2017 to target those involved in the production and supply of dangerous drugs, namely Methylamphetamine (Ice), Cocaine, MDMA and Cannabis in the Mount Isa District.
Over 35 search warrants have been executed by detectives across Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Normanton with the assistance of the State Drug Squad and Townsville and Cairns dog squads.
A significant quantity of dangerous drugs with a street value in excess of $200,000 have so far been seized during the operation including;
482.5 grams Methylamphetamine (Ice)
29.5 grams MDMA
3 grams Cocaine
94 grams Cannabis
Over $17,000 in cash, six illegal firearms and a sea turtle shell have also been seized during the operation. A number of offenders have been charged under the Drugs Misuse Act, Weapons Act and Nature Conservation Act in relation to these items.
Investigations are continuing and will be ongoing with detectives expected to take further actions throughout the Mount Isa District in the coming weeks.
Operation coordinator Detective Senior Constable Shane Wockner said that while the results so far were satisfying, police will continue to target those engaged in the production and supply of dangerous drugs across the District.
“If you come into our communities and use or sell drugs, it will not be tolerated and you will be identified by detectives and dealt with in full accordance of the law,” Detective Senior Constable Wockner said.
