Canberra trainer Nick Olive said her understanding with the horse meant she'd be riding his stable star in the $6.2 million race that stops a nation at Flemington in two weeks.

Former Melbourne Cup winner David Hayes backed Single Gaze as a "great chance" to go one better on November 7.

O'Hara was given what was effectively a nine-day spell for careless riding as she guided Single Gaze to second in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

But she'll be back in the saddle at the start of November well before the first Tuesday of the month.

It won't stop her from becoming just the sixth female jockey to ride in the Melbourne Cup.

The Sydney hoop has developed a great bond with the five-year-old mare, having ridden 23 of her 27 career starts.

She's been in the saddle for all of her five wins and all-but-one of her nine places with Damien Oliver guiding Single Gaze to third in the Magic Millions Two-year-old Classic in 2015.

In the process, O'Hara's accumulated almost all of the $2 million in prizemoney Single Gaze has won.

She got the suspension for shifting in with 400 metres to go in the Caulfield Cup, cramping the fading Sir Isaac Newton for room on the bend.

Olive hadn't seen the incident, but had spoken to O'Hara about it on Saturday.

"She'll be riding her in the Melbourne Cup. They've got a great relationship [Single Gaze and O'Hara] and the horse really runs for her and tries her heart out for her too," a croaky Olive said on Sunday.

"It's a good affiliation. She'll definitely be riding her in the Melbourne Cup."

Hayes got a good look at Single Gaze's Melbourne Cup credentials - his horse Boom Time was the only one to beat her home at Caulfield on Saturday.

He backed the Canberra stayer, who like Boom Time is a $26 shot in the big race, to be in the mix again in a fortnight.

"She's taken on most of the opposition here, if she can hold her form she's going to be a great chance. She was strong to the line and providing she stays [she'll be a great chance]," Hayes said.

The early signs were good Single Gaze would definitely take her place in the race that stops a nation.

She ate all her food - a good sign following a race in the horse world - and had even surprised Olive with how well she'd pulled up.

Having already booked a spot in the Melbourne Cup, Single Gaze just has to prove her fitness over the next 16 days to take her place.

"She pulled up fantastic. It was a bit of a shock actually when we went in there, she's licked her feed bin out, pulled up really good," Olive said.

Canberra Racing iss working on a way to help celebrate Olive and Single Gaze's efforts on the annual Melbourne Cup race day at Thoroughbred Park.

That will take shape over the coming days as the clock counts down and Olive hoped all of Canberra would get behind the mare.

She's built momentum throughout her spring campaign, starting with a second last in the Memsie Stakes through to her second in the Caulfield Cup.

Now she'll have an easy week before fine tuning in the lead-up to the big day.

"I heard they're going to try and do a promotion for Melbourne Cup Day. That's awesome. It'll be great for Canberra to get behind her," Olive said.

"She'll probably have a pretty easy week this week. Just get to the beach a few times, just try to canter, just try and get through this run.

"We'll give her an easy week this week and then we'll just do our normal preparation into the race the following week.

"[But] she'll have a pretty easy week this week, just time at the beach, just let her relax and get her mind right. Just make sure she's happy. She's straight into the Melbourne Cup now."
