Just when Canberra thought it couldn't love Raiders captain Jarrod Croker any more, we find out he cried as bride Brittney Wicks walked down the aisle toward him last weekend.
Croker and long-time girlfriend Wicks were married on Friday, October 13, at Byron Bay's Forget Me Not homestead, with Croker penning vows that in turn had more than 150 guests in tears.
"Jarrod made my day before I even walked down the aisle," Wicks said.
"I turned to face my soon-to-be husband and could just see his emotion in tears - my heart melted.
"And his vows just blew me away.
"Jarrod absolutely wore his heart on his sleeve, spoke so kindly and true. His speech was one-of-a-kind, filled with love, thanks and appreciation."
While Wicks walked down the aisle solo - "it's just something I've always wanted to do by myself" - Croker made a much more glamorous entrance.
He and six groomsmen - including former Raiders and Roosters player Todd Carney - took the very Top Gun option of flying to the ceremony via helicopter, a surprise arranged by Wicks in the lead-up to the wedding.
In another special twist, Wicks had the engagement ring of her late grandmother Margret sewn into the pockets of her Pallas Couture dress.
"I truly believe Nan was looking down on us on Friday the 13th," she said.
"There was a 90 per cent chance of rain, wind and clouds forecasted - but we didn't have a single drop of rain, there was no wind, and the clouds parted as soon as I arrived.
"Our guests left with sunburn."
Wicks' wedding gown - featuring a low V-cut back, sheer waist detail with boning and a three-metre train - was eight months and 12 trips up the Hume Highway in the making. Wicks wore Valentino rock-stud shoes and House Of Kdor jewellery with her "dream dress". The bride walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Elvis's Can't Help Falling In Love, the same song Wicks' parents Joanne and Alan had their first wedding dance to 26 years ago. Croker and Wicks' first dance was to the Bee Gees hit To Love Somebody.
The couple's "fur babies" - pomeranian cavalier Jax and maltese cavalier Indi - sat proudly in the audience as their parents became man and wife.
"Our whole day was filled with laughs - from the bridal party's entrance to our MC's jokes," Wicks said.
"I married the love of my life, in a simply stunning location, surrounded by all of our loved ones - what more could a girl ask for?
"I'm so happy and lucky to be a Croker."
The newlyweds are currently honeymooning in Hawaii, a detail Wicks said she "let the universe decide".
"Being so caught up with the wedding we decided that we would leave the honeymoon to fate," she said.
"We got to Brisbane airport on Tuesday the 17th and booked and jumped on the next plane going somewhere hot and not too far away - aloha Hawaii."
