Winx, who is primed to win a third straight Cox Plate on Saturday, is now a likely starter in the group 1 event on the fourth day of the Flemington carnival if she comes through the big Moonee Valley race unscathed.

Waller said that two weeks ago he doubted if a start would be on, but "she must come through the Cox Plate in good condition [to run]. She can't have been worried by anything and if so she will be straight home".

"But if those boxes are ticked and we are convinced she can cope with another run she will start. A lot of her success I am sure is that we never ever over-raced her."

Winx won the Turnbull Stakes earlier this month, further underlining her liking for racing in the anti-clockwise direction.

Waller said that he had toyed with the idea of starting Winx on the final day of the VRC carnival in the past but "circumstances had never been right".

"We will have the Emirates in our plans. She's probably physically ready to have another run after the Cox Plate and in these times we have the luxury of a two-week break between the Cox Plate and the Emirates," he said.

Waller believes that the 2000 metres of the Emirates would be perfect.

"When she won her first Cox Plate she was only developing into a race mare," he said. " Actually she mightn't have been even four years of age when she won the race so she badly needed a break.

"And in her second year she was galloped on and had to be treated with antibiotics, which made a start in the Emirates impossible. People have been critical of me not racing Winx more but, believe me, it's not the money, this is a wonderful race mare who will be placed just where it suits her."

Winx, a winner of her last 21 races, recorded one of her most dominant wins when she debuted at Flemington in the Turnbull Stakes.

She punished her rivals that day, seemingly never out of second gear, and has since she thrived during her stay at Flemington.

The record crowd for Emirates day is 85,000 in 2011 when Black Caviar was successful in the Darley, and if the VRC were not building a new stand the turn up to see Winx could have threatened that figure.
