Edwards played for the Major League Baseball world team in the Arizona Fall Classic earlier this month and caught the attention of scouts across the USA.

The Weston Creek Indians catcher impressed a host of schools and is now weighing up where he'll begin his college career next August.

Schools in Texas, Florida, Arizona and more are trying to convince the Canberra College student to join their program before having a crack at the professional ranks.

Edwards said he'll likely sign with a smaller college to guarantee game time and then transfer to a bigger program in his second year.

"Yeah it was a fairly successful trip, I got a lot of interest from different colleges and I'm looking to go to a junior college where I'll definitely play then transfer to a big school," Edwards said.

"The process from here is to just keep in touch with the colleges, provide videos and keep them up to date on what I'm doing and then sign a scholarship.

"There's no set date to sign, so I don't have to get it done straight away but colleges don't want to wait too long, it kind of has to be done within a few months of them making contact."

Edwards will play with the Canberra Cavalry this summer but keep his amateur status to align with America's strict college eligibility rules.

"The plan is to get some games for the Cavs, have some at bats in the pro league here and then just hit the gym and get stronger and bigger for college," Edwards said.

"Playing for the Cavs I'm not allowed to get paid like the other guys because the American system is really strict on making sure colleges don't sign professionals.

"I'm working with the head of Baseball Australia Glenn Williams who has helped a lot of young kids be eligible for the Australian Baseball League and college."

Edwards' trip included tours at some of the biggest colleges in America, including Arizona State University which has more than 50,000 students on campus.

"It was really cool seeing those big schools and good fun getting to play against kids my own age to get an understanding of what I'll be coming up against," Edwards said.

"The players over there are pretty developed and mature, so I'll have plenty to learn when I get there but right now I'm just focusing on getting a decent ATAR for back up in case I get injured.

"I want to use baseball to get a tertiary education then hopefully development and get drafted and play pro baseball and see where that takes me.

"It's going to be a lot of fun, I'm extremely excited and almost want to head over now, I can't wait."
