Joshua was out fishing on the lake with his dad on Saturday afternoon when he landed the 26.70kg monster barra, which he brought in after a half hour battle.
“I’m over the moon,” Joshua said.
“It’s my first ever barra.”
Joshua was taken to the stage on the shoulders of supporters and aptly presented with his award by “Barra” Bill Rigby from the Fish Restocking Group
The fish smashed the previous lake record of 26.17kg set 10 years ago in 2007.
Fish Restocking Group president George Fortune said it showed the quality of the barra in the lake.
“I’m sure there are bigger ones out there,” he said.
Also still out there is the tagged barra worth $50,000, a prize that yet again went unclaimed.
Mr Fortune said they would perhaps look at dividing the $50,000 up into smaller portions in future years to make sure someone got some money from the event.
In another successful event there were 297 competitors, 21 junior female, 44 junior male, 50 senior women and 182 senior men.
Between them they caught over 300 fish - 15 sleepy cod, 22 barra, 29 sooty grunters, 75 longtoms and 177 catfish.
In the dragon boat racing on Saturday Floorworks set the best time of the day of 1.37 in the final to beat Clancy Corp (1.40) and North West Canoe Club (1.45).
