The Mount Isa sex worker has been in the industry for eight years and is now taking readers behind the scenes on an emotional journey of her line of work.
The book, Tara: Mature Aussie Lady, is focused on mental health and depression she witnessed in her industry.
“As I joined this industry I found there is more to our role then just sex. Some clients just call us because they need someone when they have no one, especially when they are depressed, lonely or suicidal,” Ms Tara said.
“I am not saying this goes for all of my clients, but even one is too many. I see it more often than I care to think about and sometimes I struggle listening to stories of grown men in pain and trying to move on.
“From drug rehabilitation to divorce, the book shares the experiences I had with these broken men and how my industry has helped them.”
Ms Tara also breaks the mould of people’s perceptions of sex work with personal insight into the controversial world of paid sex.
“I felt there was a real need for people to understand that working girls and their clients are not bad people,” she said.
“There is a stigma circling working girls and that we don’t care for our clients. This could not be further from the truth.
“I purchase Christmas presents for each year for clients I have had for many years and they are ecstatic about it and it makes them feel like someone cares.”
The self published book hit shelves in Mount Isa on Friday November 3 but has been released state-wide for the last month. Ms Tara said the feedback had been amazing.
“Firstly from my clients who have supported me 100 per cent, to my family, friends and readers. I’ve had both women and men tell me how great the book is and have had a lot of people ask questions about my industry that they want to know but feel embarrassed to ask,” she said.
“A lot of people have taken an interest in the book and so far I’ve had no negative responses.”
