Up and coming softball star Rhys Shelley has taken out the Spinifex State College sportsperson of the year at the awards night in the Civic Centre on Wednesday.

The award is presented to a student who has achieved success on the sporting field and Shelley has made his mark in the softball world.
Shelley is earning a reputation as a fine catcher and utility player and the Healy Heights youngster has graduated from the local leagues to selection in the Australian Green Men’s team in the International Friendship Series in July this year.
Shelley also made the 17 years school presidents team in May along with being named in the Australian Secondary Schools team.
Since then he has gained selection in the Queensland Secondary Schools team to play at the Pan Pacific Games this year from December 1-10.
Shelley is considered to be one of the best young softballers in the country and has been chosen in the junior Australian squad.
