Sikaran Martial Arts Club hosted its first ‘come and try’ day for its own club at the shooting range, as an extra-curricular excursion and fundraiser.
Club fundraising co-ordinator, Marilyn Roche, said the pistol club allows groups to organise their own come and try days, which they pay a fee for.
“It’s a bit of a membership drive for the pistol club as well,” Roche said.
“A few of us have come here before. And last year when Sarah (Brisbane) was raising money for Mount Isa Queen Quest, that’s where we got the idea from.”
Club president, Dallas Farnsworth, said Sikaran’s end of year grading is coming up on November 25.
“All the kids come, we put them through their paces and see what level they have achieved, how proficient they are at the art of Sikaran, and then they get graded,” Farnsworth said.
The club teaches and practices two styles of martial arts.
“We’ve got Sikaran, which is similar to a form of karate, and then we do dose perez stick fighting, and they are both Filipino Martial Arts,” Farnsworth said.
