Fashions on the field were floral but casual, with most spectators attempting to keep cool in Hawaiian shirts, hula skirts, sun hats, swimmers and lei.
Just like the 40 degree day, the racing was hot, with a competitive six race program to keep the crowd entertained.
The first race was a 1100 metre Maiden Plate, which saw Rachel Shred on Sleeping Satellite take first place. This was one length ahead of Tim Brummell on Sciolta and six and a half lengths ahead of John Lait on Just Pretends.
The second race was 1100 metre Handicap that saw Mount Isa Jockey Dan Ballard on Wicked Wiki cross the finish line first. Four lengths behind in second position was Tim Brummell on Wicked Investment closely followed by Steven Galvin on Crystal Bear.
A 1100 metre Handicap was the third race of the day with Shaun Mossman on Our Hussler finishing in first position. Following two and a half lengths behind the leader was Dan Ballard on Nuncius in second, and Keith Ballard on Denlago in third.
Class 5 1100 metre Handicap was the fourth race. Jason Babarovich riding How Big’s The Hole finished in first place, followed by Lachlan Dodds on Night Wolf and Dan Ballard on My Crimson Lad.
Race five saw Tim Brummell on Revel in the Chaos win the 1100 metre Open Handicap, followed by Dan Ballard riding Travel In Style and Lachlan Dodds on Craiglea Cruz.
The final race was the Benchmark 65, 1350 metre Handicap and saw a closely contested fight for first place. Rachel Shred on Diurnal Tiger claimed first position with Lachlan Dodd on Admiral Ruff only 0.2 lengths behind. Third place was Keith Ballard on Sparkling Vixen.
