The Department of Transport and Main Roads is doing the work to install traffic signal lights and a pedestrian crossing at the junction.
There will also be some treatment to the footpath to widen it and some line markings to go with the pedestrian crossing.
The Department said the upgrades are required because of the number of schools and kindergartens within walking distance of the intersection.
It is a busy junction at school drop off and pick-up times and when events are on at Alec Inch Oval and currently those exiting from Thomson Rd must stop at the junction.
The upgrades are expected to take around six weeks to complete however the traffic lights will not be switched on until sometime in the new year subject to the connection of power.
