In Mount Isa, a local childcare centre has begun an initiative where its young ones get to meet and hang out with their senior citizens.
Red Oasis Kindergarten’s Nominated Supervisor & Centre Director, Sarah Gohdes-Smith, said the children thoroughly enjoyed their first excursion to the Laura Johnson Home (LJH) on Monday, November 13.
“We had story time where the children sat with them, they had little chats and conversations, it was absolutely beautiful,” Ms Gohdes-Smith said.
”This was an amazing opportunity for all involved, not only to visit and meet with the elders of our community, but also to be able to ride on a bus for the first time!”
Ms Gohdes-Smith said she hoped it would be the first of many visits to meet with more ‘wonderful people’ in the community.
“It was a nice opportunity for the children to recognise and build friendships with some of the elders here in Mount Isa,” Ms Gohdes-Smith said.
"We would like to thank the wonderful staff at LJH for all their help in organising the visit.”
The residents reportedly enjoyed the visit and asked when the children would return.
“Next year we’ll take things and do some crafts as well as more stories, songs, and colouring,” Ms Gohdes-Smith said.
