A 40-year-old Mount Isa man was sentenced to four months imprisonment on Tuesday November 28, after beaching a domestic violence order.

Leston Miller Booth pleaded guilty via video link in Mount Isa Magistrates Court to one count of contravention of domestic violence order (aggravated offence) and one count of stealing.
The court heard how Mr Booth, while intoxicated stole a shovel from a nearby premises before returning to the location where he threatened a woman and breached a domestic violence order.
Mr Booth’s solicitor attempted to negotiate the sentence down to two months imprisonment, but the magistrate disagreed.
“Your client needs a message sent to him,” the Magistrate said.
“He was convicted of these charges a week after I released him from police custody on parole.”
With a 17 year criminal history, Mr Booth was charged with his first domestic violence offence back in 2000, with a streamline of offences since.
The domestic violence order was extended for a further five years, meanwhile Mr Booth would be eligible for parole on January 25, 2018.
