Speaking at Commerce North West’s annual general meeting on Tuesday, Mr Crowther said the organisation had a productive, busy and promising year.
“We have rolled out several successful projects and events all benefiting local business and encouraging economic growth for our region,” Mr Crowther said.
Mr Crowther said in 2016 the Board made the decision to terminate its full-time employee to save costs. “That drastic decision had proved beneficial as we finally see the organisation getting ahead financially and start to prosper again,” he said.
Mr Crowther hailed the Minex exhibition, as well as the first Isa Kids Expo, the rodeo Best Dressed Premises and the annual business awards night.
“Minex remains one of Queensland’s largest biennial mining exhibitions (with) over 80 registered exhibitors and 1500 visitors packed into Buchanan Park for three days of informative networks and displays,” he said.
“The tailored business matching appointments on the ‘Trade Only Tuesday’ saw us receive praise for the quality of the genuine sales opportunities.”
Mr Crowther said that although the Northern Outback Business Awards lacked a naming rights sponsor this year, the event sold out quicker than ever with 300 people at the Civic Centre.
“A special mention to overall winners ADG who took out the coveted business of the year award,” he said.
He said the Isa Kids Expo organised by board member Cathy Bimrose was also a massive success.
“Over 500 people attended to see what the 30 plus exhibitors from the kids and baby industry had to offer,” he said.
Mr Crowther was re-elected chamber president unopposed with Ms Bimrose now coming in as his deputy.
Kerry Moore remains secretary though the treasurer position remains open after Andrew Newman stood down.
