The latest count shows 74.67% of the count has been tallied.
Mr Katter has 12,409 votes (66.27%), with Labor’s Danielle Slade in second with 3151 votes (16.83%).
The LNP’s Ronald Bird is third with 1848 votes (9.87%), independent Sarah Isaacs fourth with 617 votes (3.29%), the Greens’ Peter Relph 391 (2.09%) and independent Craig Scriven 310 (1.66%).
Postal ballots will be counted until Tuesday, December 5.
The Katter’s Australian Party has two members elected, Mr Katter and Shane Knuth and has hopes of winning a third seat in the seat of Hinchinbrook, north of Townsville.
Mr Katter said he wanted to work with the crossbench to keep the pressure on a Labor government that may only had a bare majority in parliament.
