Isolated falls in excess of 70 millimetres and strong wind gusts are on the cards for Sunday and Monday, with large hail also possible for Tuesday.
BoM meteorologist Michelle Berry said the state had also had a damp start to the weekend, with storms and significant rainfall across the southern interior on Saturday.
Cunnamulla recorded 27 millimetres overnight, with surrounding areas receiving as much as 40 millimetres. The rain and storm activity continued into Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, showers were expected to move through the south-east on Saturday, with little rain forecast for Brisbane.
However, conditions were expected to change during the next three days.
Storms were forecast to roll through the south-east bringing mostly heavy rain and strong winds for Sunday and Monday, with the possibility of large hail on Tuesday.
Ms Berry said the rain would be "a bit hit and miss" in the coming days, but areas directly in the storm's path could receive more than 70 millimetres in 24 hours.
From Wednesday onwards the weather would clear to showers and cloudy conditions through to Friday, with top temperatures forecast to be 30 degrees or above from Tuesday onwards.
Fire and emergency services crews were on standby after BoM warned the heavy rain could lead to flash flooding.
Eastern districts south of Rockhampton and Emerald, including Gladstone, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are expected to be hardest hit.
