Celestial choirs filled Buchanan Park with the spirit of Christmas on Sunday night for Carols by Candlelight in Mount Isa.

It seemed almost everyone in town was out enjoying a fun night of song and dance at Mount Isa City Council’s annual end of year event.

Hundreds of children and their families dressed up in festive fair – in Santa hats, reindeer antlers, elf suits, and plenty of joke Christmas T-shirts.

The Kazoos launched into the evening’s musical program with a couple of rousing Christmas songs, including ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’:

Everyone in the crowd covering the lawn was encouraged to join in singing and dancing, though many were too settled into their picnics.

Young dancers from Mount Isa School of Dance performed a couple of numbers dressed as reindeer and Santa’s elves.

Mount Isa Choral Ensemble (MICE) had two performances, starting with the younger singers, before joining forces with their diverse adult voices.

Two solo singers performed some stunning carols a cappella, including this gem:

As well as performances on the main stage, plenty of market stalls run by community groups kept everyone fed and watered.

Mount Isa City Council had a stall where they handed out freebies and Christmas balloons, dressed as elves.
