Females were granted free entry and a free drink each, and turned out in style in numbers.
On the field, impressive tackling on both sides kept an event score for most of the game, but Cloncurry pulled through with some fierce footwork.
Cloncurry Captain, Hamish Chrisp, expertly manoeuvred a couple of tackles himself, and was thrilled with his team’s first win in a while.
“The boys have been building all season, slowly getting better and better. That’s the first win for us this season, so we’re gonna enjoy being in the shed singing that song. Yeah, I’m ecstatic,” Chrisp said.
“We’ve had good numbers at training, it’s just all slowly coming together. It is hard, with guys from Julia Creek, Curry, even some fellas on stations another hour and a half from Julia Creek.
“So getting them here on a Saturday, first win, the boys are in town, and we’ll be enjoying it,” he said.
Next Saturday is the final MIRU game night for 2017, with the season returning after Christmas.
