Mount Isa City Council said it was encouraging clubs and organisations to use this valuable opportunity to make Council aware their club’s participation in sport and recreation in the region.
The development of the strategy relies on the involvement of the community, so Council said it welcomed input from schools, sport and recreation groups, the local community and other interested parties throughout the consultation phase for this project.
Representatives from community clubs should to go to the Mount Isa City Council website before Australia Day (January 26, 2018) to complete the online questionnaire which should take around 30 minutes.
Clubs who complete the survey will go into a prize draw for grant writing assistance valued at $750.
Cr Peta MacRae, chair of the strategy steering committee said the purpose of the strategy was to help guide Council and the broader community to make decisions about where best to invest time and resources in relation to sport and recreation programs, services and facilities over the next 10 years.
“We strongly encourage local residents to become involved in the consultations that will be occurring throughout the Mount Isa region between now and early 2018,” Cr MacRae said.

“We are particularly keen to hear about the types of physical activities that people are currently participating in; what types of activities they would like to do in future and what the barriers to participation may be.”
Cr MacRae said council understood the enormous value of sport and recreation to the community in health and wellbeing, social connections and economic benefits.
“The city of Mount Isa has a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents,” she said.
“We are also aware that the volunteers from our local sport and recreation clubs are invaluable assets when it comes to the delivery of sport and recreation opportunities in Mount Isa which is why we will be working in partnership with our local clubs to help build their capacity and assist them to be more sustainable into the future.”
CPR Group consultants will be attending the Sports Sign On Expo on Saturday February 3 to engage in one-on-one consultation with sport and recreation groups, schools and community members.
