Forty-four students and a handful of adult guest actors will perform the famous production at the Julia Creek Civic Centre on December 9 starting at 7pm.
Matilda marks the third consecutive annual performance for Branches Performing Arts with dance instructor, Amy Tinning, announcing the performance would be full of comedy and drama.
“Matilda is about a gifted girl who is born into a family of crooks,” Ms Tinning said.
“Matilda enjoys the simple things in life and is focused on things like books and learning, so she goes to school meets Miss Honey and she takes Matilda under her wing.
“The story continues as Miss Honey and Matilda prevail against Miss Trunchbull. The show ends with Matilda’s parents signing over the adoption papers for Matilda to Miss Honey.”
Ms Tinning said she chose the Matilda production as it conveyed a positive message.
“Its about sticking to what you believe in and don’t be afraid to go against the status quo,” she said.
“I also chose Matilda based on the current graduating students and their suitability for the roles.
“Every year I look at the students I have to work with and chose the production based on what I feel they would suit.”
The production includes 30 acts, choreographed by Ms Tinning including a mixture of solo and performances as well as small and large group dances.
Students started preparing for the annual concert in term two, completing choreograph in term three and rehearsing in term four.
Ms Tinning said the students and guest adult actors had worked really hard to perfect their performances, and it should make for an entertaining show on Saturday with 120 tickets expected to be sold.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night.
