Shut Up and Christmas will be held at the Pioneer shopping complex on December 16 from 10am to 2pm, inviting all to celebrate the festive season.
Rotary Club of Mount Isa past president and current Assistant Governor of District 5990, Tracy Pertovt, said the non-for-profit organisation wanted to give back to the local community leading up to Christmas.
“There has been so much doom and gloom around town lately, we thought we would try and bring some happiness back into the community,” Ms Pertovt said.
“We decided to stage the event, Shut Up and Christmas, which is a totally free community event for all the children of Mount Isa.
“The event should see plenty of kids receiving a early Christmas present from Santa on a Harley, along with plenty of free games, haircuts, food, drinks.
“Rotary have organised some free games and Mount Isa police are coming down to do some activities with the kids also.”
Ms Pertovt said local business had jumped on board to sponsor the event.
“Many generous businesses have jumped on board this initiative to supply their time and products at no cost.
“It’s not about making any money, it’s about lifting the profile of Rotary Club of Mount Isa and spirits of children leading into the Christmas season.
“Rotary has done quite a fair bit already this year, but this event just caps off a great year we have had.
“We just wanted to give something to the community before Christmas.”
