Ginninderra Tigers batsman Rhys Healy lost count of the times he's "thrown away" a century but he finally broke through for his maiden Cricket ACT first grade ton on Saturday.

He was complemented by a firing Angus Lelievre (98) and left the Tigers at 8-332 at stumps against Weston Creek Molonglo at Stirling Oval in round two of the Douglas Cup.

Healy says he was "over the moon" when he notched up his ton but says his knock had almost ended in heartbreak a few balls prior.

"I've thrown away my fair sure, I can't count how many I've put down, getting out in the 80s or 90s. After a while I'm pretty stoked to get those three figures," Healy said.

"I thought I was in my 80s or something. I'd had a few overs where I'd got a few runs. Someone on the field said something about being on 99 and I thought they were joking. I got one through the gap, got two, and the boys went off.

"I definitely didn't think I was in the 90s. I'd edged one between keeper and slip for four a couple of balls beforehand which was not too good but I ended up getting there.

"I got the monkey off the back and hopefully there'll be a few more coming. I hopefully would have got a few more runs out there except I ended up getting a deflection off the bowler and run out at the non-striker's end."

Healy faced 180 balls in a mammoth innings but he still didn't hit the best shot of the day - that honour belonged to a tail-ender.

"Cam Suidgeest hit the best shot you'll see all season. He hit a six over cover coming in at No. 10 which is pretty handy," Healy said.

While the Tigers are in a solid position heading into day two Healy is refusing to get ahead of himself and think the game is in the bag.

"You look at their line-up and obviously John Rogers is probably the best stick in the comp. Then you've got blokes like Mark Bennett and Harry Medhurst supporting him," Healy said.

"They have a few key wickets there and I have no doubt Stirling will be a flatty again next week so we've got to be bowling really well to make sure we defend this total.

"It gives us every chance but the game is not over at all by any stretch."

Meanwhile, Queanbeyan looked to be in all sorts of strife early in the day at 5-96, with ANU all-rounder Ben Mitchell on his way to 5-141 at ANU North Oval.

But that was before Guy Gillespie (83), Brad Falkenberg (82) and Matt Grocott (59) joined forces to lead the Bluebags to an imposing total of 336.

The Owls will have it all to do next week after losing a pair of early wickets to finish day one at 2-14 at ANU North Oval.

North Canberra-Gungahlin recorded one of their best efforts of the season to finish the day at 3-266 against Tuggeranong, while Eastlake 3-183 made a solid start against Wests-UC.
