There were eight sides that lined up at Sunset Oval on Saturday for a big day of action, the six teams that played the T20 plus two other sides: Townview, Challengers, Panthers, Black Stars, Cavaliers, Western Bulls, Kaos and Din Squeezers.
The format was each side played two games of six overs a side with only six in the field and each player had to bowl one over.
The scoring system was two points for a win, 0.2 points for a wicket and 0.1 for a run, so there was a bit of maths involved to work it all out.
As you can imagine there were large gaps on the field so there were some high batting totals from the 36 available balls.
Townview were first up against Western Bulls and they showed ominous form to reach 3/82, which was too strong for the Bulls’ 4/61.
Next was Blackstars v Panthers.
Black Stars may have dominated the T40 and T20 forms this year but they would be the first to admit they are not the youngest side in the competition so all that extra running meant they didn’t quite cut the mustard in T6, narrowly going down by 4/91 to 1/82.
Challengers also showed promise with one of the biggest scores of the day 0/104 to defeat Cavaliers (1/76) with Pradip making 67.
Kaos lived to their name causing chaos with Din Squeezer bowling to reach 2/93, too good for the Squuezers 2/53.
Panthers had their second win over Western Bulls 0/66 too good for 6/46.
In the grudge match game 6, Townview smashed 0/101 against the Black Stars with Cody Tully making 50no. Blackstars could only get to 3/75.
Kaos (5/55) narrowly beat Cavs (3/52) in game 7 while Din Squeezers struggled to get to 6/25 defeated by the impressive Challengers 0/71.
A countback saw Townview and Challengers in the final with Panthers unlucky to miss out.
Townview openers Tully (59no) and Burke (33no) set an imposing 0/97 and although Pradip again scored 39, the Challengers fell short at 2/86.
The cricket T40 comp starts on January 20.
