A Gold Coast gym "hero" has scored a new pair of thongs after he and his powerlifting mate foiled an alleged armed robbery.

Gerard Pashkevich and Andy Davis had been out for dinner about 8.20pm on Sunday night when they spotted a man wearing a balaclava walking into a pharmacy at Southport, in the Coast's north.

"He was behind the counter getting money and everything out," Mr Pashkevich told Sunrise.
"So [he] just walked in and he said he had a gun but luckily it was fake."
Mr Pashkevich copped a broken finger for his trouble and lost his thongs in the scuffle.
"They [the pharmacy] gave me a new pair straight away so instant karma," the chuckling man said on Tuesday morning.
CCTV footage shows the two powerfully built men tackling the man into the shelves and onto the ground.
"He was pretty wide-eyed," Mr Pashkevich said of the moment the would-be robber spotted the pair.
"He looked up and I think he rethought his situation."
Mr Davis told Today when the man warned he had a gun, he and his friend "got him to show it to us".
Police charged a 47-year-old Burleigh Waters man with one count of armed robbery over the incident.
