Grace under pressure was par for the course for Garcia and Rose

Excuse me, while I exult once more. I mean, just how extraordinary is the culture of golf? While every other sport struggles to keep its soul once it hits the Big Time, golf just keeps getting better and better. Take the final few holes of the Masters, in April. Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose were like two boxers going blow-for-blow for the heavyweight championship of all the world. Everything was on the line and yet, when Garcia's final putt just misses and they are set for a playoff, what happens? Both men embrace, warmly! Their partners embrace! Their families embrace! And now, as Garcia finally hits the winning putt, on his 74th attempt, who appears genuinely thrilled for him, and congratulates him first? Why, Justin Rose, the man he just beat! And who, clearly empathetic, is consoling Rose at the bitter disappointment of having come so close, and just missing out? Of course, Sergio Garcia.
