An armed car thief who slashed a man with a knife while trying to steal a car in Brisbane's south has taken police on a 300-kilometre chase and remains on the run.

Police are investigating after the man tried to steal a Hyundai Tucson that was parked in a driveway on Stringybark Street in Sunnybank about noon on Thursday.
Police said the female owner got in the car as it backed down the driveway, causing the man to stop and run towards a white coupe, where a second man was waiting.
The male occupant of the house chased the offender but when he reached into the car to try to remove the keys, one of the men in the car allegedly slashed his hand with a knife.
The men fled in the coupe, which was stolen on Tuesday night from a home on Bernays Road at Wynnum West.
Police tracked the car to the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast with the help of the police helicopter.
The car crashed in Maryborough at 3.37pm and, shortly afterwards, the men assaulted a 63-year-old man in Caringa Street before stealing his white Kia that was parked in his driveway.
The Kia was last seen heading northbound near Howard, west of Hervey Bay, about 3.45pm but by 6.15pm, one of the men had stolen a white Mazda 6 from a garage at Dundowran Beach.
It was last seen about 8.20pm heading south on the Bruce Highway near Tiaro.
Police are hunting two men, who have been described as aged in their late teens with short dark hair and are believed to have returned to the greater Brisbane area.
Members of the public have been urged not to approach the two men, but to contact police immediately if they do see them.
Investigations were continuing.
In an unrelated incident at Woodridge on Thursday, police said a man was threatened with a knife and had his ute stolen.
About 12.30pm the victim stopped at his house on Barkala Street when a man got into the passenger seat.
Police said the alledged offender attempted to grab the keys from the ignition and when a struggle broke out between the two men the offender threatened the driver with a knife.
Police said the driver got out of the ute and removed his two young children from the back seat before the man drove off in the car.
About 12.45pm the stolen ute was involved in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Mt Capalaba Road and the Gateway Motorway at Mackenzie.
Police said no one was hurt in the crash.
The stolen car was a blue 2014 Ford Ranger dual cab with Queensland registration AMD06 and was understood to be driven by a Caucasian man in his 20s who was about 180 centimetres tall and had a medium build.
The offender had cuts on his arms and was last wearing shorts, a T-shirt and a black baseball cap.
Anyone who had seen the ute or had information should contact police.
