The club took a forced break from usual practice after the 2017 Outback to Stack when the executive committee stood down from their roles to embark on other community and personal endeavors.
A new committee was voted in at a special meeting on November 26, with a large turnout of members showing ongoing support for the club.
The RATS are coming off a successful year of racing with members competing in Julia Creek, Cairns, Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Emerald, Geelong, Victoria and Busselton, WA.
RATS members are back to regular training with Monday and Wednesday running sessions and Saturday open water swims at Lake Moondarra giving members a head start ahead of a big 2018 race calendar.
Launching a new format this year, the RATS are hosting the Mount Isa Triathlon Festival, combining the popular Mount Isa City Council Corporate Triathlon, a live music night at Lake Moondarra and Round 17 of the Nissan State Series.
The festival will also incorporate the first race of the RATS’ popular Race to the Creek series, aimed at conditioning triathletes for the hotly contested Dirt’n’Dust Triathlon on April 15.
Club president Richard Norris said the weekend will appeal to beginners and social triathletes, and those athletes looking to get points on the board for the Nissan State Series.
“The Corporate Tri was a fun, social event with a great turnout last year, and we know that more serious athletes will also travel to Mount Isa for the double points on offer in the State Series,” Mr Norris said.
He said the Isa RATS are an inclusive club for all abilities and experience levels.
“We have top shelf athletes competing in competitions all over the country, our new members and juniors who are learning the ropes and developing a love for the sport,” he said.
New RATS member Kerry Mitchell is joining the IsaRATS to help her towards her goal of competing in a triathlon.
“I needed to work on my fitness…and hopefully make some friends along the way,” Ms Mitchell said.
