Paramedics arrived at a property in Pacific Haven, west of Hervey Bay, to reports an ultralight aircraft had crashed just after 11am on Wednesday.

The pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft, a 68-year-old man, reportedly managed to get himself out of the aircraft and was treated for head and ankle injuries by paramedics.

He was transported to hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigations suggested the man had taken off from an airstrip at Howard just south of the crash site to make the short return to Childers, south of Bundaberg, when crosswinds struck the aircraft, causing it to clip the top of a Marina Drive property and crash into the yard, police said.

Homeowner Terry Adams said he wasn't home when the aircraft clipped his house.

"I got a phone call and (they) said you might want to come home, there is a plane in your house," he said.

"I'm glad he's not dead - the house doesn't really matter, that is what insurance is for mate, shit happens."

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officer Ross Findlay told media that the incident could have been much worse.

"My experience with any light aircraft (crash) is that people don't normally survive them but if they do survive them they have horrific injuries," he said.

"This gentleman is very lucky."
