The San Diego Padres have recalled outfielder Buddy Reed, who will leave on Tuesday, and shortstop Gabriel Arias, who will leave Sunday week.

Both played a role in the Cavalry's 15-14 win over the Bite at Narrabundah Ballpark on Saturday night, to make the series score 3-0 with a game to play.

Reed's averaging .303 with the bat as lead-off hitter, while 17-year-old Arias has been electric in the infield and was averaging .271 with the bat.

The arrival of outfielder Travis Witherspoon will help cover one hole, having quickly settled into life in the Australian Baseball League, but how he covers Arias in the infield is another matter.

Canberra came out playing like they knew they were playing the bottom-placed ABL team, starting sluggishly to go 3-1 down in the top of the second.

But their offence clicked into gear, with starting pitcher Lake Bachar also finding his range to pitch five innings before Collins gave him a rest.

Outfielder David Kandilas continued his dominant season with the bat - with a solo home run and a three-run double - while Reed, Witherspoon and Cam Warner joined him with homers of their own.

They should've won by more, getting out to a 12-3 lead, but the Cavalry bullpen struggled when Bachar left the game and the Bite took advantage to rally late.

The visitors had been their own worst enemy at times - dropping fly balls and missing simple outs at first base - but their offence exploded to score 10 runs in three innings to level the score.

But the Cavalry steadied, with the Perkins brothers, Kyle and Robbie, both bringing runners home to make it 15-13, before Canberra closer Michael Click put the Cavalry fans out of their misery despite Bite scoring once to halve the lead.

The Bite were on track to be the worst team in ABL history with a winning percentage of 22.5 per cent, with no team ever finishing with a percentage less than 30.

Canberra will look to complete a clean sweep of the four-game series at the Fort on Sunday at 1pm.
