Award-winning journalist Matt Wordsworth will present from the anchor desk Monday to Thursday, while Jessica van Vonderen will present on Friday and weekends.

Born and raised in Queensland, Wordsworth is a political and investigative reporter at the ABC and former presenter of 7.30 Queensland.

He has more than 20 years' experience in journalism, has presented Lateline and metropolitan news bulletins and covered the London Olympics and several state elections as a reporter.

Wordsworth returns to Brisbane after two years based in Sydney.

He said he was thrilled and honoured to be returning home to Queensland.

"Queensland contributes so richly to the economic, cultural and political landscape of the nation and I look forward to continuing the outstanding coverage the ABC provides throughout our great state," Wordsworth said.

Van Vonderen has worked at ABC Queensland since 1999.

She is the current weekend presenter of ABC Queensland's 7pm news bulletin and the former host of 7.30 Queensland and Stateline.

Van Vonderen has almost two decades' experience in TV, radio and online, including being involved in the ABC's coverage of every Queensland election since 2004, and has reported from bureaus in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Brisbane, Darwin and Canberra.

"I'm really looking forward to another big year in Queensland, bringing amazing stories to our audience, on behalf of an incredibly hard-working bunch of ABC journalists, camera operators and editors," she said.

Wordsworth and van Vonderen will move into their new roles presenting the nightly TV bulletin from January 29.

Last week, it was announced that former TV anchor Karina Carvalho, who presented the 7pm bulletin since April 2013, was moving to take up a new national presenting role.

From January 29, Carvalho will anchor the ABC NEWS Channel every weeknight from 7 to 9pm, based in Sydney.
