Acting Media & Public Relations Officer, Tristin Condon, said early last year Councillors decided they wanted their increase in remuneration to benefit the community.
“They each agreed to identify groups that were important to them or that they were keen to support, to donate to sometime in the future,” Mr Condon said.
The remuneration came in before Christmas, and Councillors committed to donate the difference in remuneration – $1000 each.
Councillor Vicky Campbell made two $500 donations – to Dajarra State School and Cloncurry QCWA (Queensland Country Women’s Association)’s Creative Play initiative.
Councillor Brad Rix made a $500 donation to the Cloncurry SES, which has had a real resurgence in recent years.
Cr. Rix also made a $500 donation to Cloncurry MultiSkill Centre – a training café promoting learning and employment opportunities.
“The MultiSkill Centre is also an environment where people can improve soft skills; even the routine of going to work on a regular basis, communicating with people at your job, a lot of things some might take for granted,” Mr Condon said.
Damien McGee made a donation to Cloncurry State School’s Building Fund.
All councillors except the Mayor and Deputy are allowed to donate their remuneration increases each year.
