It will be alleged a blue Holden Commodore was driving erratically along the Gold Coast Highway at high speed about 1.30pm on Friday.
Police said the car then ran a red light at the intersection of Chairlift Avenue before hitting a green Holden Barina, sending the hatchback into a spin.
It will be further alleged the Commodore mounted the median strip and smashed through a fence before crashing into a white Mitsubishi and colliding head-on with a Nissan Pathfinder.
Police said officers found the driver allegedly behaving aggressively towards the other motorists and witnesses. He was arrested at the scene on Friday and police announced charges had been laid on Saturday.
A 31-year-old Upper Caboolture man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance. He was scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on April 20.
No one was seriously injured in the incident and police continue to appeal to anyone with vision of the car before the incident or any witnesses to contact Policelink on 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
