The weekend of action will include the annual Mount Isa City Council Corporate Triathlon on Saturday afternoon.
In the Mount Isa City Council Corporate Triathlon teams will battle the heat and each other for a place on the podium in the popular sprint distance event.
Competitors and supporters are then invited to hang around for a beer, a barbecue and a boogie with local organisations, including The Shack Music Club, getting involved for an evening by the lake.
Saturday morning, points will be up for grabs in the Triathlon Queensland Nissan State Series.
There has been a lot of interest in the event from a number of out of towners.
The club will be hosting a sprint distance triathlon, as well as junior events under the State Series Banner along with an adult enticer event.
The race will also be race 1 of the annual Race to the Creek series, which preps athletes for the Julia Creek Dirt’n’Dust Triathlon on April 15.
Mount Isa RATs Club President Richard Norris says the festival-style format of the weekend gives competitors from outside Mount Isa a bigger incentive to make the trip out west.
“The club is working hard to make this year’s event one of the best we’ve had, with food and entertainment out by the lake to encourage visitors and locals to stay out and enjoy the evening,” Mr Norris said.
“We’ve had great support from both the Council and Mount Isa Mines sponsoring the main events, and Southern Cross TV helping us out with publicity, so we are excited for what’s looking like a great event”.
